Why Juno Award nominee Lido Pimienta is reading this book of essays about the many stages of parenting
Lido Pimienta is a Canadian Colombian singer and songwriter based in Toronto. The synthpop and experimental musician rose to prominence after her 2016 album, La Papessa, won the $50,000 Polaris Music Prize in 2017.
Her latest album Miss Colombia, released in 2020, builds on the intricate electronica and cumbia sounds heard on her first two albums, Color and La Papessa. Pimienta has been nominated for a 2021 Juno Award for album artwork of the year.
Pimienta stopped by The Next Chapter to talk about the book she's currently reading: The Joys and Sorrows of Parenting, a compilation of 26 essays about the different stages of parenthood and motherhood.
"I was into the disappointment of what happens when you have to face bad news — such as having to communicate bad news with children, or when expectations are not met.
What I like about this book is that it basically tells you that it's OK to take time for yourself.
"I feel like I am constantly disappointing my children. I don't feel like I'm with them enough, even though I try to do everything that revolves around them. What I like about this book is that it basically tells you that it's OK to take time for yourself.
"In the end, your kids are going to appreciate that because you're going to be in a better mood and a better disposition to face everyday life with them."
