Sarah Raughley is a big fantasy fiction buff — and fell in love with this bestselling Canadian novel
Sarah Raughley is a fantasy novelist from Southern Ontario. Raughley's YA Effigies series, which includes Fate of Flames, Siege of Shadows and Legacy of Light, drops readers into a world where four young women are imbued with the powers of the four elements — fire, water, air and earth — and tasked with protecting the world from the evil Phantoms.
Raughley loves re-reading the 1993 fantasy novel The Hunter's Moon by Irish-Canadian author O.R. Melling. She spoke with The Next Chapter to tell us why.
"I read this book in middle school. I found it in the library. It deals with the world of faerie and Celtic mythology. I was a big mythology buff. But it also combines that with an almost Japanese role playing game esthetic where this party of misfits have to come together and fight this grand evil.
"There's something so cool about that. I have loved so much of her work."
