Olivia Penalva is a Canadian pop singer and songwriter who was born in British Columbia. Penalva began her career in her teens and her latest single, Love Me, already has more than 20 million streams on TikTok.

Penalva stopped by The Next Chapter to talk about the book she's reading: a collection of poetry, quotes and prose called Inward by Yung Pueblo.

"It's a great book. It's actually poetry and I am obsessed with it. The back of the book says, 'The true power is loving the realization that you are your own healer, hero and leader.' I think that is so true to everything inside the book.

"Every poem is about something, whether it's about understanding yourself or healing or just finding yourself again when you're struggling.

It's a great book. It's actually poetry and I am obsessed with it.

"Reading one poem a day sometimes is so nice. Reading it in the morning, to wake up and think about it throughout the day. I feel like it applies to so many people's lives. Each chapter is about something different: there's one about self-love and one specifically to healing and one specifically to pain.

"It's a whole book about somebody else's growth. I think that's really cool."

Olivia Penalva's comments have been edited for length and clarity.
