Jessica Maros on taking a walk on the wild side

Vancouver native Jessica Maros is a singer-songwriter, jewellery and clothing designer, and one half of the Nashville-based indie-folk duo Escondido. Since their formation in 2001, Escondido's music has been critically acclaimed and featured in several films and TV shows. Maros is currently reading a 1992 book about the myths of women: Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés.

I absolutely love this book. She basically breaks down a bunch of mythological stories from the past. They're eastern European stories. There are stories from Iceland, and she discusses the fairy tale of them and how a woman's psyche is translated. It's very fascinating.

I've been going through being a woman in the music industry. So reading this book really helped me realize the feelings that I feel when I'm on the road, just like sticking up for myself and trying to say things in a better way. And in these stories, it discusses all the areas and the struggles of women in history. So the book encourages women to tap into the wild side to make changes. And that's why I like it.
