Why Kristin Kreuk reccommends Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
Kristin Kreuk is a Canadian actress known for her roles in television series like Edgemont, Smallville and Beauty and the Beast. She recently read Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi.
I found it incredibly moving because it explores how our narratives are tied to our history: how we are, who we are, where our world is at. There are a lot of people who don't have a connection to those narratives. They got lost over time. There's a quote in the book that I really loved, where a character says, "When you study history, you must always ask yourself: whose story am I missing? Whose voice was suppressed so that this voice could come forth?" I think this relates to our own personal lives and that these histories aren't separate from us. That they are a part of our own experience and our current lives.
