The House

How will Canada meet its new emissions reduction target?

This week on The House, Environment Minister Leonna Aglukkaq explains how Canada plans to meet its new emissions targets. We also hear Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne's take on the federal government plan. Then, Information Commissioner Suzanne Legault discusses the report that has put her on a collision course with the government. The In House Panel weighs in on debates, ads and the strategies behind them.
Canada has committed to a 30 per cent reduction of 2005 levels by 2030.

The case of the moving targets — the federal government has just announced its new greenhouse gas emissions targets, but earlier goals aren't even close to being met yet, according to a 2014 report from the environment commissioner.

So how will the country meet its ambitious new pledge to cut emissions by 30 per cent of 2005 levels by 2030? We put the question to Canada's Environment Minister Leonna Aglukkaq, and then Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne joins us with her view — and discusses a letter her government has written to Aglukkaq asking for a greater and more concrete federal commitment to fighting climate change.

Then, Information Commissioner Suzanne Legault discusses the report that has put her on a collision course with the government.

Finally, In House panelists Mark Kennedy and Jennifer Ditchburn discuss the debate over the debates and the latest advertising controversy involving Employment Minister Pierre Poilievre.
