Health-care haggling
It's rare for the 13 leaders of Canada's provinces and territories to agree on any policy proposal. When it comes to demanding additional health-care funding from the federal government, however, they maintain an almost united front. But the federal government — which, during the COVID-19 pandemic, promised a renewed dialogue on the issue — is pushing back on those requests and questioning the premiers' math.
To sort through what each side wants and what might actually help a health-care system under stress, The House talks with two people on opposite sides of the jurisdictional divide. Andrew Furey, premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, joins the program to outline what provincial governments want to see, and Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc gives Ottawa's take.
