Moments of Disruption: How a relationship can shake up a family
This season on The Current, we're going to be hearing stories about the forces disrupting society at large in our series, The Disruptors, but we're also going to be hearing your own, personal moments of disruption.
Like this story from Shelley Perry from Fredericton, N.B., who says she and her partner are in a relationship that's both disrupted their lives, and the lives of their families.
Here's an excerpt from her letter to The Current:
"I am a white, Canadian woman in a long-term relationship with a Bangladeshi man who has immigrated to Canada. His family still lives in Bangladesh and expect him to marry a woman of their choosing. He is breaking with tradition by dating someone outside of his culture and the repercussions with his family have been quite devastating. We are trying to navigate our future together (including marriage) the best we know how, and trying to deal with the tumultuous waves created by our union."

Keep sending in your personal moments of disruption! We'll be sharing them on the air, throughout the season. Be sure to include the words "Personal Disruption" in the subject line.
