Mohamed Fahmy, Canadian journalist, pardoned by Egypt

Canadian journalist Mohammed Fahmy is one of 100 prisoners pardoned today by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The Canadian government has said they will assist to facilitate Fahmy's departure from Egypt. We speak to Adel Fahmy, Adel's brother.

Canadian journalist Mohammed Fahmy is among 100 prisoners who received a pardon today.

This comes just a day before Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi plans to head to New York for a new session of the UN General Assembly.

Mohammed Fahmy was working with Al Jazeera when he was arrested in December of 2013. 

In a retrial he was sentenced to three years in prison, just last month on widely denounced terrorism charges.

We reached Adel Fahmy, Mohammed's brother, in Kuwait who is thrilled to hear the news.
