Remembering Leilani Muir

Leilani Muir was a champion for the rights of people with disabilities and survivors of sterilization. She successfully sued for being sterilized without her knowledge, paving the way for over 700 victims. She passed away this week.

Leilani Muir was an advocate for sterilization victims and a champion for the rights of people with disabilities.

Muir was sterilized at the age of 14 without her knowledge, after failing an IQ test. When she successfully sued the provincial government over her sterilization, she paved the way for compensation for more than 700 victims. 

Muir passed away in Alberta this week, she was 71.
