A Concordia professor visiting Iran has been arrested and detained in Tehran's infamous Evin prison, says her family.

In March 2015, Homa Hoodfar, a professor of anthropology at Concordia University in Montreal, was arrested in Iran while researching the public role of women in that country.

She was temporarily released on bail, prohibited from leaving that country, but has been detained again.

Hoodfar has been taken to Evin prison— the same place another Canadian woman died in 2003, after being sexually assaulted and beaten into a coma by prison guards.

Homa Hoodfar's family is extremely worried, especially considering the 65-year-old has health conditions that need to be treated.

Hoodfar's niece Amanda Ghahremani joins The Current to shed light on what is being done to free the Canadian.
