Today on The Current:

We bring you a special show, Easing into 2022, about taking it easy and being kind to yourself in 2022.

Dieting or losing weight is often at the top of New Year's resolutions, but stand-up comedian Debra DiGiovanni will make no such promises to herself — or anyone else — this year. She spoke to us about her journey through rehab for an eating disorder.

Then, musician Tamara Lindeman of The Weather Station often writes songs that lean into deep emotions. This can be seen in her 2021 album, Ignorance, which included songs about love, loss, and feelings around the looming climate crisis. She explains why taking on our feelings can be the best way to handle them.

And we hear from two Black Canadians about making time to care for themselves. Rapper Shad Kabango explains how his song, Black Averageness, is a provocative call to embrace being OK; and Allison Hill, owner of Hill Studio, tells us how her business encourages Black women to find time to care for themselves.

Also, fitness goals can dominate New Year's resolution lists, but two experts tell us why people should take it easy and not put too much strain on their bodies this year. Lou Schuler is the former fitness director at Men's Health magazine and the author of many fitness books; and Jeff Warren is a meditation teacher, the host of the Do Nothing Project and a former producer for The Current.
