Today on The Current:

As winter weather sets in, some schools without mechanical ventilation are trying to lower the risk of COVID-19 transmission by keeping windows open and telling students to wrap up warm. We talk to Joe Ortona, chair of the English Montreal School Board, which has bought 800 air purifiers for its classrooms; Krista Wylie, co-founder of Fix Our Schools, who says issues with school buildings predate the pandemic; and Jeffrey Siegel, professor of civil engineering at the University of Toronto.

Plus, is the pandemic keeping you up at night? Experts say you're not alone, but warn that insomnia's long-term consequences could be significant. We talk to Veronica Antipolo, who is sleepless in Toronto; Rébecca Robillard, who directs clinical sleep research at The Royal's Institute of Mental Health Research and has advice for how to get back to better sleep; and Judith Davidson, a sleep clinician and author of Sink Into Sleep.

Then, an investigation from CBC's The Fifth Estate unravels the complicated tale of how a high-stakes gambler set authorities on the trail of accused Canadian spy Cameron Ortis. Bob McKeown, co-host of The Fifth Estate, tells us more.

And if you can't see family in person this holiday season, P.E.I. food columnist Margaret Prouse has some tips about how to safely send them a batch of sweet treats in the mail.
