Today on The Current:

From an explosion of COVID-19 cases to new restrictions and lockdown measures, there's a lot to be anxious about. But as the Globe and Mail's André Picard tells us, there are some reasons to hope ahead of the holiday season. We also speak to Dr. David Carr, an emergency room physician at the University Health Network and Mackenzie Health Hospital in Toronto, about why he's tweeting an advent calendar of good COVID-19 news every day until the end of December.

Then, earlier this year, the CBC's Margaret Evans took us inside Uganda, where COVID-19 was threatening to undermine decades of work to protect the African nation's mountain gorillas. We revisit her documentary about what's being done to keep them safe.

And pigeons have been associated with urban decay and disease by some, but there was a point in time when they were a status symbol collected by the rich and powerful. We speak to science writer and cartoonist Rosemary Mosco about why now is the time to reconsider the pigeon — and her book, A Pocket Guide to Pigeon Watching: Getting to Know the World's Most Misunderstood Bird.
