Video shows woman harassed 100 instances in 10 hours walking in NYC
Being on the subway at rush hour can be uncomfortable ... but for some women, it can be worse. Here's a video of a flashing incident that took place on the New York subway in 2010:
This video (above) was ent to the New York City chapter of Hollaback! -- an organization which encourages people to fight street harassment.
This week Hollaback! put out its own video showing what some women endure. An actress was hired to walk around New York City, dressed in a t-shirt and jeans. She was discretely filmed as she strolled.
In the end, the actress was harassed more than 100 times in 10 hours.
Shortly after the video was released, the actress in the video began receiving rape threats.
Emily May is the co-founder and executive director of Hollaback! She was in our New York studio.
While the video put out by Hollaback! just came out this week, street harassment is hardly a new problem.
Feminista Jones has come up with a way to help confront it when it happens. She's a social worker and writer, who uses a pseudonym because of safety concerns. She was in New York City.
Laverne Blake is the Manager of Client Services at Ernestine's Women's Shelter in Toronto.
