Gulp: Adventures on the Alimentary Canal

Science writer Mary Roach brings her curiosity to the food we eat, mostly after we've eaten it in her new book 'Gulp'.
Mary Roach's curiosity has taken her from a cadaver farm to having sex in an MRI machine. The science writer now brings her deep insight into our deep insides with her latest book, Gulp: Adventures on the Alimentary Canal.

The video above is from last year's hotdog eating contest in Coney Island, New York carried live by ESPN.

Most people might find that hard to stomach as an athletic competition. But science writer Mary Roach covers the gut and she has a tough constitution as she's shown in her books on human cadavers and laboratory investigations of sex. She needed all the intestinal fortitude she could summon for her latest work, Gulp: Adventures on the Alimentary Canal.

Mary Roach joined us from San Francisco.
