Democracy? There's an app for that

Our Democracy Hacks series explores small, concrete suggestions for making our systems of governance better here in Canada. This time around, we hear a listener suggestion for how politicians can get direct guidance from their constituents on how to govern.

Jon O'Connor has created the Democracy App. It allows constituents to have direct input on how they would like their elected representatives to vote on issues in city hall, the provincial legislature or in parliament. Candidates would have to pledge to take the wishes of the residents of their riding to heart when supporting or rejecting legislation.

O'Connor plans to put the idea to the test IRL this Fall, running as an independent candidate in the upcoming federal election.
