OPINION: People are too mean to Social Conservatives

National Post columnist John Robson has always felt people are mean and dismissive toward Canada's social conservatives. And to Robson, media reaction to a recent leadership election in Ontario went too far. Robson wants the Canadian public to cut social conservatives some slack.

National Post columnist John Robson feels that the Canadian media is, in general, too dismissive and sometimes abusive towards Canada's social conservatives.

In the broad spectrum of Canadian political ideology, social conservatives are those with more traditional values around institutions like marriage, who may oppose the current lack of legislation around abortion, and whose political views may align with their religious views.

To Robson, the recent election of Patrick Brown as the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario led to a denunciation of social conservatism in the media, even though Patrick Brown may not be planning to mobilize the social conservatives of that province.

In this commentary, John Robson asks Canadians to be more tolerant of social conservatives.
