'Even if it doesn't hold in the court of law, my rape was real, and I didn't deserve it'
Comedian Heather Jordan Ross takes a pause from humour and tells us why she's glad she finally decided to report her rape to police, two years after it happened, even though it did not lead to charges.
It is estimated that only 33 out of every 1000 sex assaults are reported in Canada. Of those, just over a third lead to charges.
And if charges are laid, victims may have to open themselves to intense scrutiny as they make their way through the criminal justice system.
Most don't bother.
But in this radio essay, comedian Heather Jordan Ross says even though no charges were pressed, she's glad she took the risk, and reported her sexual assault.
