His poetry reflects his passion for social justice. It gives voice to the dispossessed, and celebrates the ordinary worker struggling to make it through another day. His name is Juan Felipe Herrera, the first-ever Latino Poet Laureate of the US.
Mr. Herrera has earned critical acclaim and numerous awards, including the Guggenheim Fellowship, the National Book Critics Award, and the Latino International Award. His work evokes comparisons to poets as diverse as the great Walt Whitman and Allen Ginsberg. His latest collection of poems is called Notes on the Assemblage.
