Think Canada invented hockey? You're offside!
Hockey historian Jean-Patrice Martel joins Michael Enright for another episode in our occasional series, “Think Again.”
The Canadian Encyclopedia entry for "hockey" reads: "That hockey is 'our game' is incontestable. We invented it."
But Jean-Patrice Martel does contest it. He says hockey was first played across the pond in the U.K. and it evolved over the years to become the game Canadians know and love today.
Martel is the former president of the Society for International Hockey Research. He's also a co-author, along with Patrick Houda and Carl Gidén, of a definitive history of the game, On the Origin of Hockey.
He joined The Sunday Edition's Michael Enright for another episode of our occasional series, "Think Again."
