It is that time of year when our radio stations, and malls, and elevators, and iPods, and phones, and who knows what else, are filled with the music of Christmas. For some of us, Christmas music is one of the season's great joys. For others, it is great scourge, nay, the bane of our existence, nay, the closest thing to grounds for justifiable homicide we know.

But the music of Christmas is ubiquitous. It has been with us in one form or another for about 1300 years. On this last Sunday before Christmas, 2014, we investigate the horrors, the wonders, and the joys of all things Christmas and musical with our man about music, Robert Harris.

Here are Robert's picks for the worst Christmas music:

    1) Kenny Gee, "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas"
    2) Carrie Underwood, "The First Noel"
    3) Bob Dylan, "O Little Town of Bethlehem"
    4) The Three Tenors, John Lennon's "Happy Christmas/War is Over"

Here are his picks for the best Christmas music:

    1) Gene Autry, "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer"
    2) Gene Autry, "Here Comes Santa Claus"
    3) Duke Ellington, "The Nutcracker Suite"
    4) James Brown, "Santa's Got a Brand New Bag"
    5) Mel Tormé, "Christmastime is Here" from "A Charlie Brown's Christmas"
    6) Maureen McGovern, "The Christmas Song"
