Black in America; Gay dads make history; Stop the noise!

Black in America: Guest host Laura Lynch talks to two astute analysts about what it means to be black in America. Patricia Williams is the James L. Dohr Professor of Law at Columbia University; her books include "The Alchemy of Race and Rights" and "Seeing a Color Blind Future: The Paradox of Race". Eddie Glaude is William S. Tod Professor of Religion and African American Studies, and chair of the Department of African American Studies at Princeton University. His books include "In a Shade of Blue: Pragmatism and the Politics of Black America." "All the Way Home" - an Alisa Siegel documentary: David McKinstry was desperate to be a dad. But as a gay man in the 1980s, his options were few. For more than twenty years he fought to adopt a child. Everywhere he turned, he faced a brick wall of rejection. At last, a match was made with an orphan in India. And just as suddenly, a second child appeared. Ready or not - David and his partner became the parents of two boys. And they went on to make history as the first gay couple in Canada to legally co-adopt children. Fighting noise pollution: Is cutting out noise the answer to a stress-free life? Poppy Szkiler fights noise pollution wherever she finds it -- in the office, on the street and at home. Ms. Szkiler is the founder of "Quiet Mark", which awards a seal of approval to manufacturers that create less noisy products. Music this week by: Chris McKhool and the Sultans of Swing, Lily Frost, Stephane Grapelli and Django Reinhart, Edgar Meyer and Yo-Yo Ma, pianist Christine Vanderkooy, and Steve Reich.
