The Sunday Edition has received 3 Gabriel awards
A word about some international recognition for the work we do here on The Sunday Edition. The program has won three prestigious Gabriel awards.
The Gabriels are sponsored by the Catholic Academy of Communication Professionals, to honour excellence in film, television and radio—programming that, in their words, shows "outstanding artistic achievement, that entertains and enriches with a true vision of humanity and a true vision of life."
Here are our winners:
"Manjusha Meets Her Match," produced by Alisa Siegel: Manjusha Pawagi is a Toronto judge and mother, who was in desperate need of a stem cell transplant. Against enormous odds, a match was found. In our documentary, she connects with the young man who saved her life.
"The Meaningful Man," produced by Cate Cochran: An hour-long special about Viktor Frankl, the Austrian psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor whose memoir, Man's Search for Meaning has sold in the tens of millions and continues to inspire and comfort readers more than half a century after it was written. "The Meaningful Man" also won a Gold at the New York Festivals Awards.
"Dead Mom Talking," produced by Rachel Matlow: Don't let the title scare you! "Dead Mom Talking" is a tender tale of a mother and daughter who re-connect through the magic of radio. Rachel used tape she had recorded with her ailing mother, to produce a startling and intimate post-death conversation about dealing with loss.
All three documentaries were guided and shaped by our documentary editor, Karen Levine.
