About Spark
Spark explores how technology, innovation and design affect our lives.
Nora Young — Host/Producer
In 2007, Nora Young created Spark. Prior to that, she was the founding host of the CBC Radio show Definitely not the Opera, where she often focused on new media and technology.
As a journalist, author, and speaker, Nora explores how new technology shapes the way we understand ourselves and the world around us.
Her book, The Virtual Self, is published by McClelland and Stewart. Her favourite technology is her bicycle.
Michelle Parise — Senior Producer
For the past 25 years, Michelle Parise has been a CBC journalist in everything from radio news, children's television, music programming, and at the helm of many national radio programs. She's led the Spark team since 2010. Michelle is also the creator, writer and host of the multi-award winning podcast Alone: A Love Story.
Her book, Alone: A Love Story, is published by Dundurn Press. Michelle is a soccer player, sewing enthusiast, and champion thrifter.
Samraweet Yohannes - Producer
Samraweet first came to CBC as an intern in late 2016 and later left for the UK to pursue a second degree. During her time away, she earned a masters in conflict resolution and MENA studies from King's College, University of London and interned at Monocle. She joined the Spark team in fall 2020. As a roving AP, she's also worked on other programs, including Cross Country Checkup, CBC Books and Canada Reads, Day 6, and The Current.
Unlike her Spark colleagues, she is not a published author, but does love a good book. She also enjoys hiking, practicing analog photography and carving on her longboard.
