Have a seance with the spirits of lost cinema
One time only, and then it's gone!
Filmmaker and internet artist Guy Maddin has long been fascinated - or tormented - by the huge percentage of films from the early years of cinema that have disappeared. So he's started "re-imagining" them, based on the tidbits of information known about them.
Now, together with co-director Evan Johnson and the NFB, he's put these dreamlike films online in a project called Seances. But there's a catch. An algorithm determines how the disparate parts of the films will combine to make a whole new film, and the movie that results will never be played in the same way again.
Much like a paranormal seance, these ghostly movies come together for the viewer, and then disappear again!
