Exit through the GIF shop
An art gallery in Minneapolis is selling Snapchats, voicemail, and animated GIFs in their gift shop. But is it art if it's designed to disappear?
At the Walker Art Center online gift shop, you can buy Snapchats, voicemail, or animated GIFs all from a collection called Intangibles. But can these forms of technology be considered art when they are designed to disappear? The curators think so. Michele Tobin and Emmett Byrne explain why intangible art objects are becoming popular and profitable.
We also hear from one of the artists, Martine Syms, about the voicemails she's selling through the Walker Shop.
In this interview, you heard Emmett and Michele mention these other intangibles: the sold out Suite of 12 Ringtones by composer Nico Muhly, and the (also sold out) 25 Snapchats from photographer Alec Soth.
