What would happen if an Asteroid hit the Moon?
This is our occasional feature, where our listeners think of a question, and we ask a Canadian scientist to tell us the answer. And today’s question comes from Rick Dee of Birch Island, B.C. He writes:
“I was wondering what would happen if an asteroid hit our Moon? ...and what would happen to us?”
To help us answer this question, we looked up to Dr. Jeremy Tatum, a retired Professor of Physics and Astronomy at The University of Victoria. He says the answer is: not much, since there are no asteroids currently in our solar system that are large enough to make a difference.
