The aurora borealis - or Northern Lights - are one of nature's most wondrous sights. The iconic swirls and bands of flickering greens and reds, often seen in the cold, dark Arctic skies, have inspired myth and legend, poetry and art.
And more recently, they inspired Dr. Melanie Windridge, a plasma physicist and Academic Visitor at Imperial College London, in England, to explore their beauty, spirituality and natural power, in a new book called, Aurora, In Search Of The Northern Lights.

She explains the science behind the lights, while embarking on a Northern hemisphere travelogue, in search of the perfect aurora.
