Fenton Bailey is a producer on RuPaul's Drag Race and the co-founder of the production company World of Wonder, but his latest project takes a look at something a little different.

Liberty: Mother of Exiles is a new documentary that follows legendary fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg as she sets out to discover the history and meaning of the Statue of Liberty — something that once symbolized hope and freedom for immigrants — and re-examines it in 2019.

Bailey joined q guest host Angeline Tetteh-Wayoe to tell us more about the documentary, as well as the beginnings of RuPaul's Drag Race and how it helped bring drag culture into the mainstream.

"It's very exciting to see people embracing drag and recognizing that it is this incredible artistry first and foremost," said Bailey. "I'm glad that we're evolving past those old prejudices where the idea was that drag queens should be downtown in some sleazy club and not on TV. I think TV and drag queens are like peanut butter and jelly, they belong together."

You can find Liberty: Mother of Exiles now on HBO and Crave.
