Artist Mickalene Thomas on reclaiming the black female body in her work
Brooklyn-based visual artist Mickalene Thomas joins Tom Power live in the q studio to talk about her new exhibition, Mickalene Thomas: Femmes Noires, which opens tomorrow at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
A new exhibition is opening at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto tomorrow, called Mickalene Thomas: Femmes Noires. It showcases a wide variety of work from the Brooklyn-based visual artist, including photographs, portraits, collages, video installations and massive paintings adorned with rhinestones and glitter.
Thomas joins Tom Power live in the q studio to talk about how these powerful images make us rethink how society looks at the black female body. Mickalene Thomas: Femmes Noires runs until March of next year.
