How new period drama Harlots tackles sexuality from a female perspective
Harlots creators Moira Buffini and Alison Newman talk to q guest host Ali Hassan about their period drama.
Moira Buffini and Alison Newman are the co-creators of the new television series, Harlots, in which sex is depicted from the female perspective in a realistic, empowering manner.
Set in 1763, the show centres on two warring prostitution houses in London, England. Harlot stars Samantha Morton and Jessica Brown Findlay, who played Lady Sybil Crawley on another British period drama, Downton Abbey.
Buffini and Newman join q guest host Ali Hassan to discuss how a show written and directed by women impacts the way female sexuality is portrayed and how the themes explored in a series set in the 1760s connect to present-day realities.
