Director Danny Boyle credits Trainspotting's sequel to the fans
Twenty-one years after we were introduced to Renton, Sick Boy, Begbie and Spud, Trainspotting is finally back with its sequel, T2 Trainspotting.
Director Danny Boyle returns to the project, alongside the actors behind the iconic characters, but Boyle is quick to point out that none of this would've been possible if it weren't for all the work that the fans of the cult classic have done.
"Fans know more about it than you do and they possess it," Boyle says, of losing possession of his biggest films to its fans. "They carry it forward, they keep it alive and they put the seed in your mind of 'Should we go back to it?'"
While Boyle admits that a sequel was originally in the works 10 years ago, he wasn't ready to tackle the themes of this film at the time. But the result now, as he explains it, is a "much more acute personal film."
