British musician Sampha says his new album, Process, was an exercise in emotional strength and a way to deal with feelings he often ignores.

The album was written during a period of pain and grief in Sampha's life. He was caring for his dying mother, something that casts a powerful shadow over the record. "There was a bunch of things going on in my life at the time, that was around the time when my Mom had cancer. It kind of just takes me back to a time where I felt like everything was caving in," he tells Tom.

Sampha joins Tom Power to discuss the juxtaposition between joyful and painful memories and why listening to the record is therapeutic for him.
