Ben Caplan questions the idea of 'old stock' Canadians on new album
Musician Ben Caplan talks about his new album, and how a Romanian-Canadian refugee story has resonated with so many audiences.
Canadian folk musician Ben Caplan has just released a new album based on the show Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story, which he co-wrote with Canadian playwright, Hannah Moscovitch. The show, as with the album, is based on the true story of how Moscovitch's Romanian Jewish family made their way to Canada in 1908.
The message is that there are no "old stock Canadians" — all but Canada's Indigenous people are immigrants. Caplan dropped by the q studio to talk about the album, and how a Romanian-Canadian refugee story has resonated with so many audiences.
