Violinist Nicola Benedetti on pulling creative strings
Nicola Benedetti talks about her work ethic and being pigeonholed as a female classical music performer.
Acclaimed violinist Nicola Benedetti is in Canada this week, performing with the Toronto Symphony orchestra at Roy Thomson Hall.
She's had a long and accomplished career, winning the BBC young musician of the year awards back in 2004 and getting a lucrative record deal soon afterwards.
However, Benedetti has talked openly about how female classical musicians are often marketed in stereotypical ways.
Benedetti talks to q host Tom Power about resisting these characterizations, her dedication to her craft and her efforts to push music boundaries and blend styles.
