What's really behind the dangerous 'Bird Box challenge'?

Every week, the q online panel gets together to bring you up to speed on the big headlines taking over the internet right now. Today, Buzzfeed's Elamin Abdelmahmoud and The New York Times' Amanda Hess join Tom Power to discuss the Bird Box challenge, a social media trend that was directly inspired by the hit Netflix film Bird Box. 

The challenge involves participants filming themselves engaging in a series of amusing or challenging tasks, all while blindfolded. 

Popular YouTuber Jake Paul posted a video of himself doing the Bird Box challenge on Monday, but he took it a step further. In the video, Paul walks into traffic and even drives a car blindfolded.

Netflix was early to put out a statement warning people not to do the Bird Box challenge, but it's raised some questions around who started the challenge and how it differs from other viral trends of the past, like the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
