How Studio 58 is tackling harassment in performing arts by raising questions in the classroom
On January 17th, leaders in the world of theatre and live performance are meeting to start putting together a national plan to eliminate sexual harassment and bullying in professional Canadian theatre. This has become an incredibly timely issue not only because of the #MeToo movement, but also due to allegations of sexual misconduct against former Soulpepper Theatre artistic director Albert Schultz.
As industry stakeholders come up with a plan, Tom Power talks to longtime theatre instructor Courtenay Dobbie about how she's addressing these issues in her classroom at Studio 58. Studio 58, located in Vancouver, is one of the most respected theatre schools in Canada — and they are bringing conversations about sexual misconduct and bullying right into the curriculum.
