After three decades of fascination, Daisy Goodwin has brought Queen Victoria back to life.

In her new PBS TV series, Victoria, Goodwin brings us a different side of the famous royal — an independent, passionate, modern-day heroine.

"She was the first woman to get married while she was queen, and have children," Goodwin points out. "It's a fascinating story."

It was important for Goodwin to debunk the myth that Victorian era women were repressed. She adds, "That's not Victoria at all. History has tended to pretend that she's less passionate because I think we're a little bit scared by a passionate woman."
