Inside the surprisingly human art of BoJack Horseman illustrator Lisa Hanawalt
As a kid, Lisa Hanawalt was obsessed with horses. Years after declaring 'I want to be famous for drawing horses,' her wish came true. Hanawalt is a producer and production designer on BoJack Horseman as well as the author of a new graphic novel, Coyote Doggirl.
Think back to the number one thing you were obsessed with as a kid. For Lisa Hanawalt it was horses. Hanawalt loved horses the same way other kids love dinosaurs and trains. She'd "gallop" on all fours, imitate their noises and once, in sixth grade, she wrote a report on horses in which she declared, "I want to be famous for drawing horses some day."
As you can see from the illustrations below, her wish came true. Hanawalt is now a producer and production designer on the Netflix show BoJack Horseman and she's also just released her first full-length graphic novel, Coyote Doggirl.
Hanawalt joined guest host Laurie Brown to talk about turning a childhood interest into a career, as well as her new graphic novel, which is out now.
