The untold story of the man behind Johnny Cash

After the death of Saul Holiff, Johnny Cash's long time manager and friend, Holiff's son found a box filled with audio diaries, 13 years' worth of recorded phone calls, and letters between his father and Cash.

These resources offered a candid look into events in Cash's life, including playing Madison Square Garden, visiting the White House, drug overdoses, arrests, and the cancelled concerts and lawsuits that were often left in his wake.

We've heard the story of Cash and June Carter through songs and movies like Walk The Line, but before that there was the untold story of Cash and Holiff.

Julie Chadwick is the author of The Man Who Carried Cash, a book about the relationship between Cash and his manager of 13 years, and she speaks to Tom Power about the book.
