When we listen to music we tend to only hear the melodic lines — but what if you stop and listen to the way a piano chord echoes or how a cello string reverberates? This idea is at the heart of deep listening, a philosophy that embraces intentional listening to learn.

Deep listening comes from music scholar and composer Pauline Oliveros and has been embraced by musicians all over the world, including Calgary electronic musician Sarah Davachi, who joined us to explain why it's a valuable tool in an increasingly loud world.
