Save This House: remembering Spirit of the West's seminal album

As Spirit of the West's John Mann prepares to retreat from the spotlight, we take a look at one of the group's landmark recordings.

John Mann, from the Vancouver folk-rock band Spirit of the West, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2014 at the age of 51. The singer talked about his diagnosis in a documentary called Spirit Unforgettable.

Tomorrow night in Toronto, a concert fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Society of Toronto will take place in John's honour, and according to his wife, Jill, he's looking to step away from the limelight. The fundraiser will help patients living with dementia get access to music therapy.

We thought it would be fitting to share some of John's favourite musical memories with you. In 1990, Spirit of the West released Save This House, an album that set them up to be the soundtrack at college parties and weddings all over Canada. We've asked two people close to Mann to share their memories on his behalf.
