Celeste Ng's Little Fires Everywhere ponders the meaning of motherhood

Race is not something a lot of people like to talk about. You don't want to come off sounding insensitive or too sensitive, but most of all, discussing racial tensions can often reveal our own prejudices.

In author Celeste Ng's New York Times bestselling novel, Little Fires Everywhere, she tackles that discomfort. 

Ng's book takes us to Shaker Heights, a quiet upper-middle-class town in Ohio. The locals there see themselves as progressive and generous, but a custody battle over a Chinese-American baby divides the suburb. 

Ng joined Tom Power to talk about her latest novel, how it addresses issues of race and identity, and her celebrity fans.
