Since 1968, and for decades after, Fred Rogers taught children how to be kind, how to be neighbourly, and that he liked them just the way they were. Filmmaker Morgan Neville was deeply moved by those very simple principles.
Neville's new documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor looks at the life and legacy of Mister Rogers. The film just had its premiere at the Hot Docs Film Festival and was shortlisted for an audience award.
Today, Neville talks to Tom Power about his documentary on the beloved children's television icon and explains how the project started because of a conversation with a world-renowned cellist.
Won't You Be My Neighbor is out across North America on Friday, June 8.
