Prince superfan Anil Dash on the singer's 1989 Batman album
Originally published on July 25, 2019
This year, the original Batman comic turns 80 and Tim Burton's iconic Batman movie turns 30.
In 1989, Burton's Batman got a lot of attention because it marked a major shift in the Caped Crusader's on-screen vibe: he went from campy to someone much more sinister and serious. What doesn't get enough attention is the music from that movie, which was arranged, produced and sung entirely by Prince.
To commemorate the 30-year anniversary of the late musician's 1989 Batman album — and the movie that inspired it — Prince superfan Anil Dash joined us to take a look back at what made it such an important pop culture milestone. Dash is the CEO of the coding website Glitch and the host of a podcast called Function with Anil Dash.
