Singer Mélissa Laveaux brings the sounds of Haiti to the q studio

Mélissa Laveaux was born in Ottawa, but now calls France home. Her parents immigrated from Haiti before she was born, and while she had some connection to her ancestral home, she decided she need to know more.

Laveaux traveled to Haiti, immersed herself in the culture and listened to some of the stories and songs woven into the country's rich history. That journey became the foundation for her latest album, Radyo Siwèl.

Today, she joins guest host Laurie Brown live in the q studio to share some of this new music with us.

Radyo Siwèl is out everywhere now. Laveaux is performing in Toronto at the Garrison tomorrow night as a part of the Winter Wavelength music festival. She'll also be performing at the Quyon Church in Quebec, just outside of Ottawa, on Sunday, Feb. 17. From there, she'll continue on to Quebec City and Rimouski before heading south for a string of shows in the U.S.
