"I was blessed to grow up in a period when the beginnings of this culture were really formulating and then blessed to be somebody that's helped to echo it around the world."

Fab 5 Freddy is a hip-hop icon. He's also a visual artist, a veejay, and a filmmaker. An artist that doesn't really fit in one category, he even hosted a show called Yo! MTV Raps in the 80's.

He grew up in a New York neighbourhood called Bed-Stuy. It's known as a cultural hub in Brooklyn — full of block parties and break dancing battles on any given day.

In this edition of the q block party, visual artist, filmmaker and hip-hop pioneer Fab 5 Freddy takes us on a musical journey through Bed-Stuy, New York.

You can stream his new Netflix series, Grass is Greener right now.
