Max Minghella on pop music, Elle Fanning and his directorial debut, Teen Spirit

You may recognize Max Minghella from his roles in The Social NetworkThe Mindy Project and, most recently, as Nick Blaine in The Handmaid's Tale. His late father, Anthony Minghella, was also a director whose work included The English Patient and The Talented Mr. Ripley.

Now Minghella is following in his father's footsteps with a new film all about the entertainment industry. His directorial debut,Teen Spirit, stars Elle Fanning as a shy teenager who dreams of winning a TV singing competition. 

Minghella sat down with host Tom Power in the q studio to tell us more about his inspiration for the film.

Teen Spirit is out in select theatres on Friday, April 19.
