Jekyll and Hyde's Charlie Higson: "We all have a dark side"
British actor and writer Charlie Higson says his TV adaptation of the classic Jekyll and Hyde story is a "Downton Abbey with monsters".
British actor and writer Charlie Higson joins guest host Gill Deacon to discuss his TV adaptation of the classic Jekyll and Hyde story — a world brimming with law and chaos, which he jokingly calls "Downton Abbey with monsters".
The showrunner says 'darkness within' stories are everywhere in pop culture, from The Nutty Professor to Breaking Bad. We all have a dark side, he argues, and can recognize the struggle to separate our worlds.
Higson also makes the case for nightmares, including scary tales for kids, and notes that our fears tell us a lot about who we are as individuals and as a society.
"We create the monsters that we need."
